Keleti railway station (Keleti pu.) is situated in one of the busiest parts of Budapest, at the meeting point of the Thököly and Kerepesi út (street), on Baross tér (square) VIII. district. It got its name because from here the trains depart o the eastern part of the country, and towards Transylvania and the Balkan. Nowdays it’s one of the biggest railway stations of Budapest. The 4 main lines departing from Keleti railway station: Budapest-Győr-Vienna (towards Austria), Budapest-Hatvan-Miskolc, Budapest-Szolnok-Békéscsaba-Arad (towards Romania), Budapest-Kelebia-Belgrade (to Serbia). The bulk of the InterCity trains which offer higher comfort and also the international trains arrive here to "Keleti pályaudvar".
Public transport and lines to reach the Keleti railway station (Keleti pu.) or from there to the different parts of Budapest: Underground: M2 (red line); Trams: 24 (in Festetics György street), Trolley buses: 73, 76, 78, 79 (in Garay street), 80A, 80 (on the Kerepesi road side), Buses: 5, 7E, 7, 20E, 30, 30A, 173E, 173 (on the Thököly road side), 178, 178A (on the Kerepesi roadside).
To reach the other two main Budapest railway stations from Keleti:
- Nyugati (Western) railway station: It’s the 8th stop (about 20 minutes) without change by the trolley bus number 73 or take the underground M2 (red line) to Blaha Lujza tér (square) which is only 1 stop and then take the tram number 4 or 6 which goes toward Moszkva tér (square) and get off at the 4th stop.
- Déli (Southern) railway station (without change, about 20 minutes): Take the underground M2 (red line) until the Buda termal.
