Siófok, the capital city of the southern shore of the Balaton, is a popular holiday resort and port which offers also several programs in the teeming summer months and in the quieter period from autumn to spring. Due to its sandy beach and the pleasant climate Siófok is the best holiday resort with excellent conditions of the Balaton. The 17-kilometer beach which belongs to the city, going from the Sió canal in western direction is called as Golden beach (Aranypart), going to east it’s called as Silver beach (Ezüst park). But Siófok doesn’t mean only the bath in the Balaton. The port of Siófok is an interesting sight from where pleasure boats leave according to the timetable. The largest ship traffic happens on the Balaton and the Sió Canal also starts here which has a very important rule in the period of the snow melting. The rose garden, one of the famous sights of Siófok is situated in the park next to the port.
It’s worth to visit the center of Siófok, the Szabadság (Liberty) Square where one of its famous buildings, the 45-meter Water Tower built in 1912 can be found. We have to mention the neo-roman parish church among the public buildings. You can find the largest organ of the Balaton region here. In summer organ recital is held in the church with the appearance of famous artists. You can find the Millenium park in the center, in front of the railway station which offers possibilities for relaxation besides the beautiful spectacle for the habitants and the guests of the city.
