Zugló, the XIV. district of Budapest, is situated on the eastern part of the capital city. It’s bordered by 8 other districts. Its border is the Dózsa György út ( út and utca = street) – Vágány utca – Rákosrendező pályaudvar (Rákosrendező railway station) – Rákosszentmihályi körvasút – Kerepesi út. Although Zugló is located close to the downtown the large part of the district is green belt zone. It has 2,4 million sqm green area including one of the largest parks of Budapest, called City Park (Városliget). But thanks to its good public transport links you can also find here big residential areas.
You can find the following famous buildings and sights here: Heroes’ Square, Museum of Modern Arts and the Museum of Fine Arts, City Park, Vajdahunyad Castle, Széchényi Thermal Spa, Museum of Transportation, Petőfi Hall (Petőfi Csarnok), rowing lake in summer which is an ice ring in winter, Papp László Sport arena, Puskás Ferenc Stadium, SYMA Hall, etc.
The Millenium Underground Railway (Millenniumi Földalatti Vasút) - which comes from the city center to Zugló - was the first underground on the continent. It was opened to the public on 2th May 1896 and it operates also today thanks to the continuous renovations. The road system of Zugló is the result of the deliberate city developments of early XX. century. The roads are very busy every day due to the cars, buses and lorries because Zugló is situated among the center and the agglomeration settlements. Some of the busiest roads and squares of Zugló: Dózsa György út, Egressy út, Erzsébet királyné útja, Fogarasi út, Hungária körút, Kerepesi út, Mexikói út, Nagy Lajos király útja, Róna utca, Stefánia út, Szentmihályi út, Thököly út, Bosnyák tér, Örs vezér tere.
